I've been busy trying to find an apartment. Turns out I'm really picky.. I blame that on going to an art and design school, as well as Pinterest. It also turns out that Pittsburgh rental properties still think it's 1988, with wall to wall carpet, no natural light, and mirror-lined walls. I didn't get a college degree and a good job to have windows the size of a cat, nor do I want to see a reflection of my ass at all waking hours of the day. Mirror paneled walls are for strip clubs, end of story. I feel like by the time I find the perfect place, I'll be ready to relocate.

Piles and Piles of Vintage Finds!

I've been finding some fabulous vintage in the past recent weeks. I love unearthing vintage from unique locations near and far. There are boxes full of clothing in my living room, as I go through them one by one to clean, sew, and bring back to life for the store (or myself, if they fit!). I've got tons of new items and really exciting ones at that, I'll try to post more pictures later this week. I've also been adding a few new items to the shop today, and last week. A grand sneak peek of some awesome things to come will be posted soon, I promise.

As for me, I was in Boston over the weekend with my boyfriend for his Godson's 1st Birthday party. And while I got no vintage there, I had plenty of fun wearing it. After all, that's why we love it. Hope you had a great weekend

We had such a beautiful day today, I had to go outside and see if I could still climb the tree in the backyard. I could, kind of. In other news, I spent the weekend in New York visiting the boyfriend and boating on the Finger Lakes. While there, I was able to get some new vintage items for the store. Hopefully they will be in stock by early next week. In the meantime, I'm going to eat some more ice cream and watch The Nanny until I fall asleep on my dog.

Summer, Flowers, and Enjoying Life

Flowers, flowers, flowers! Summer is so pretty. I love having all the windows open and listening to the birds chirp while I work away on whatever my latest project is. I think I need to get out of summer vacation mode, and start getting up earlier though. I need to run a couple miles before it gets too hot, and start being productive well before lunch. Sometimes being a night owl is very frustrating.

I took a weekend trip back up to New York to visit my boyfriend. We lucked out and had great weather the whole time which allowed us to eat lunch at a sidewalk cafe, go to the pool, see a drive-in movie, and run a few miles together. It was a nice time. OH. And he had a surprise waiting for me when I got there. Two tickets to Vegas, next weekend! I couldn't be more excited, for I have never been there, and despite not even knowing how to gamble, I'm sure I will love it.

I also added a few new items to the shop today, and hopefully there will be some more up by the end of the week. Take a look!

Pretty New Workspace & Vintage Galore

I've finally completed my move to Pennsylvania and am working with a brand new studio space to work, photograph and store my beautiful vintage pieces for the shop. Also, I have a TON of amazing items to list within the coming weeks. In the past few days I have been busily working to re-photograph every piece against the new gray studio wall, but getting organized is keeping me occupied as well!

In my new workspace, I finally have loads of shelves, racks, and cabinets instead of storing hats, clothes and bags in plastic tubs and containers. It is nice not only for storage, but I love admiring displayed pieces, as they inspire and motivate me, creatively.

Other than working on the store, I have made time for some local adventures. I visited the Mattress Factory Museum of installation art in Pittsburgh, two weeks ago. There were a lot of cool exhibits, and some that were even too far out for this art major to fully understand. I still need to get to the Andy Warhol and the Carnegie Museum of Art, though. I'd also like to to make another trip out to Philadelphia, and NYC for an art excursion while visiting friends there. I love visiting other cities in the U.S. and I would love to do more traveling within the country.

Store Revamp Sneak Peek

I've been in the process of re-photographing all of the clothing from my store, against the gray wall in my new studio space. While it is a a lot of work to re-shoot 100 pieces of clothing, I think the new background looks great.

Hi there blog world. I am continuing my busy streak, aka being a workaholic and neglecting fun activities even though I don't make enough money to justify it. I had a decent weekend, hanging out with my lovely boyfriend and drawing pictures of cavities. I don't have anything thoughtful to say, so look at pictures of me when I was a baby, dammit.

Oh hey family, you are a good looking bunch of 80's people, even with that fro perm, MOM. I used to get upset when my mom would go get her hair permed. That's what the 1980's did to children. Speaking of family, I'm going to hang out with them this weekend in HOTlanta. We'll probably go to a lot of clubs and/or act just like those classy ladies on The Real Housewives. Either way, I'm looking forward to a place where it's not snowing. Ahem, Rochester, I'm looking at you.

I've recently been trying to revamp my own wardrobe, as I'm sick of wearing the same shirts I thought were cool in 2005. I decided to start spring cleaning, and making donation bags of things I no longer wear, or need. I'm of course already filling up the newly acquired space with fabulous vintage finds and timeless designer bargains. I've been doing some sale shopping on Etsy, and have gotten some amazing deals on really cool stuff (will do a post on that later). I'll be having a sale in my own store pretty soon, so stay tuned!

The weather is getting nicer, and I'm starting to lose my focus on school, though not my drive and ambition on my illustrations or getting my portfolio in shape. I'm much more motivated when I start seeing my work paying off. I just have to try and resist the pull of the great weather sucking me into it, instead of my craft. They'll be time to play after I graduate (hopefully not much, though!).

I had a good past few days. I went out for dinner and downtown bar hopping for a friend's birthday on Friday night. Also, I finally watched Precious and caught up on the latest season of Mad Men. Last week was rough, and I got some pretty crappy news that I don't feel like going into yet, but hopefully the issues can be resolved this week. Regardless, the weather is lovely! Designs to Inspire

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! I had a good time seeing some friends and hanging out with my boyfriend. Boyfriend's godson was baptized on Sunday, followed by activities most of the day, involving cute babies, food, and cake. My mother came up to help me situate a few escalating situations with my vehicle. What a pain it is to have people fix your car, and by fix, I mean not fix it and break more stuff with it.

I've been working feverishly on designing a new portfolio website in Flash, only to now decide I just want to make it in straight HTML so I can more easily edit and manipulate it in the future. I'm keeping the same scheme I has previously on the Flash site, but I really love some design inspiration to keep me motivated with it all:

I wish I had taken advantage of more offered classes in college, particularly those courses in graphic design, typography, and web design. But instead, here I am with my very useful, mandatory liberal arts concentration in history. What a waste of time. Anyways, knowing the basics, I hope to become more design oriented in my work. What inspires you?

I put some new cute, girly items up in my Etsy store, Sticky Lipgloss Vintage. Sometimes I feel like my "hey lookieee.. new stuff!" posts are mainly because I don't have anything substantial to say about my day, or own life in general, which in this case is pretty much true.

Since I'm finishing out my last quarter of college, I'm working on branding myself with sleek, matching, well-designed logos, letterhead, and a new portfolio website. I'm also scrambling to find all my art/illustrations from years past and get it onto the internet and in print for an art review show at the end of the year. Vacation Adventures in Cabo San Lucas

Hola! I am back from the fabulous Baja Peninsula of Mexico, where I was enjoying my time in the city of Cabo San Lucas for 9 days. It was warm, it was sunny, it was absolutely fantastic. I can't thank my wonderful boyfriend enough for taking me, and when he gets back from his business trip I will have to conjure up a big surprise for him, to show my appreciation.

Pictures? Oh yeah.. here are like a million, all shoved into one blog post. These are all taken with my new camera except the last one:

We stayed at two hotels on the trip. The first one is Casa Dorada, right in the downtown area, close to all the eateries, beach activities, and nightlife. The second hotel was Marbella Suites en la Playa which is more secluded and further up the coast. Both were different, and great in their own way.

If you look on the rock you can see a pretty hefty sized lizard creature, who liked to sunbathe on the rocks most of the day. I enjoyed walking along the beach looking for wildlife, and interesting things washing up onto the shore. I also got pretty darn tan, and a little plump (thanks delicious food!)

We went out the last night for a romantic dinner, with some of the most amazing food I've had in a long time. The food is my favorite part about Mexico. I could eat tortillas with beans and guacamole ALL DAY. And I did. And now I miss it. If you want to see more photos check out my Flickr.

It is good to be back, though the stress of real life is less than enjoyable. I need some more relaxation time to get organized with my real life day-to-day things, and vacation just makes it even more crazy! Oh well, really enjoyed my time away despite missing blogging, the internet, and vintage.

Weekend Recap: Fundraisers, Valentine's Day, and Etsy

Hope you all had a fantastic weekend! On Saturday, I attended a banquet fundraiser to raise money for the Rochester Boys and Girls Club. The dinner was put on by my lovely, dearest boyfriend's fraternity, who did a fantastic job with it all. We won a few things in the silent auction, including a $55 gift certificate for me to get my hair "did".

For the record, the orange didn't fit inside very easily.

And while Monday is technically not part of the weekend, I will make an exception and include it, since it was Valentine's Day. Boyfriend took me to an upscale steak and seafood place called Black&Blue. We had a great meal and wine.. even though we didn't get back until after 12! JEEZ.

Weekend Recap: Pittsburgh Pride

I really don't give a shit if the Steelers didn't win the Superbowl. The Steelers are the best football team, have the best fans, and Pittsburgh is the best freaking city on any map. When the Steelers beat the Jets two weeks ago for the AFC championship, I decided I would be going home to watch the big game. I also dragged along boyfriend, who had never been there.

Saturday night we went out to dinner with my parents on Mt. Washington at the Georgetown Inn, which overlooks the city. The above picture was what we stared at all dinner. BEAUTIFUL. The food was amazing too, thanks Dad!

Sunday we did a little Nordstrom's shopping and then went to the North Shore early enough hoping to get seats. We scouted around the bars near PNC Park and Heinz Field, and decided that Mullen's would be a good choice, though I've never been there. We got there around 2:30 PM and were able to find one bar stool which me, boyfriend, and my dearest girlfriend took sitting shifts on, all night.

And while boyfriend is from Buffalo, and a Bills season ticket holder, he's a good sport and roots for my Steelers when they aren't playing his team. He also, for the record, enjoyed Pittsburgh, and all us crazy Steeler fans. We plan on making a trip back this summer when the weather is nicer, and there's more fun things going on.

I carried my camera from NY to PA hoping to get lots of cool photographs taken, but I hardly touched it, and didn't even turn on my computer the whole time I was home. It was kind of nice to abandon technology, for a change!

And so, even though the Steelers didn't win it all this year, they are still number one in my heart, and I will bleed black and gold for life! Oh.. and I got to hang out with my doggy.. he makes life so much better!

Vintage Fashion Envy: I Love Lucy

While all my college peers were out drowning in beer and stupid rap music, I had a quiet night in with the boyfriend and a bottle of California Red Zinfandel, last night. After watching some stand up comedy, and the Nick Kroll special, which is, by the way, freaking hilarious, I decided to channel surf until I found something to stimulate my dorky side.

It seems that the Hallmark channel was airing multiple episodes of one of my favorite classic shows, I Love Lucy. I grew up watching the program, for my mom would always watch it on Nick at Nite and then TV Land, before they changed their target markets. If you've never watched "I Love Lucy", I highly recommend it, it's quite funny and well written. After a few episodes, one of my favorites, "Lucy Goes To Monte Carlo" aired, and I saw this:

Yes, I'm talking about Lucy's sequin, beaded, black dress. My latest quest will be to obtain something similar to it. And let's not forget how amazing she looks with her fur and evening clutch! This episode aired in 1956, an amazing era for flattering, and feminine fashion.

I simply drool over mid-century cocktail tail dresses and evening wear. What fashions have you been pining over lately?

Fighting Anxiety and Dealing with Being Overwhelmed

Oh no! Not a serious post!! Yeah, sorry, sometimes real life needs its little spot on the internet, too. I've been dealing with some serious stress in the past few.. well actually forever, I constantly feel an overwhelming overwhelmingness that makes me go crazy, or at least it makes me feel like I'm going crazy until I find a way to curb the emotion, and move on to another one.

School tends to be my main source of stress, in particular professors who are disorganized and don't explain project procedures and expectations, who constantly change things around, after I have a day-to-day attack plan for the workload. On top of school, when I was working a lot too, I had a really hard time catching my breath, getting organized, and getting things accomplished. When I get really stressed out with school, working, household maintenance, personal matters, or anything, I tend to find my escape in getting organized:

1. Set goals, make a schedule. In order for everything I need to get done, I make a play by play list of what things I need to accomplish each. I make the workload portions reasonable, but consistent, so I don't feel the overwhelming feeling of having too much to do at one time. This method is much more effective for me, and it maximizes my daily free time, which is a good thing!

2. Pick up clutter, clean a little bit. When I'm stressed out from a large, intensive illustration assignment or a conflict with a good friend, I find comfort in making sure my house isn't a mess, since I sometimes feel like my life is. I just go through my apartment, put away things that should be in drawers, maybe vacuum a little, clean the dishes, or just shut my closet doors. I hate extra junk that lays around and taunts me with it's ugly pre-Hoarders like presence.

3. Take a hot shower, then sit in the tub for 5 minutes. Whenever I have a few extra minutes, I love to sit and relax in hot bath after my shower. I sit, and just soak, until I start to feel like a boiling lobster and can't bare it anymore. I take a deep breath and go back to the real world.

4. GTL - L + P (for Panera). Running on the treadmill for a mile or so, mixed in with a 15 minute weekly tanning booth session is such a great relaxation method, especially in the winter, when life is just blah. Oh, and I always like to treat myself to something delicious, yet healthy from Panera!

5. Just plain get rid of the things that are stressing you out. Big project? Big test? Stop procrastinating, and just do it! This is best way to get rid of my anxiety, by fixing the problems. And while I've been a notorious last-minute kind of girl, I've started using my time much more wisely this year, which has really helped cut back on my anxiety levels. Start chiseling away on that pile of work that's looming over you, and you'll feel the weight just leave your shoulders.

I haven't done an outfit post in a while, and not just because I only wear sweatpants and knee high wellington boots everyday, it's because I really don't know how to use my camera timer and get the focus correct. Weekend Recap: Around the World In One Night

On Saturday night, my friends decided they wanted to do a mini tour of the world, right here in snowy, freezing Rochester. Our first stop was Germany, at Rohrbach's Brewing Company. They have delicious options for beer, such as the famous Scotch Ale, or the Blueberry, which I was sipping on. We got some German sampler plates, complete with funny-sounding-name cased meats, schnitzel, potatoes, and giant pretzels with dipping mustards. I ordered myself two baskets of pierogies, because this Pittsburgh girl needs here damn fill.

And then we were off to Mexico via Casa Moreno, a new Mexican place that opened real close to campus. It was crowded, colorful, and lively, and they had a wide variety of tequila, cocktails, and Mexican beers, oh.. and food. I got a pomegranate margarita on the rocks along with some chips and salsa. Boyfriend got himself a flight of tequilas, which has 3 different samples (1 blanco, 1 reposado, 1 anejo) and a sangrita to wash it all down. Yum.

After Mexico, we walked over to Wok With You, a sushi place in the same complex. We ordered some sake and I got an amazing dessert roll made of a thin sponge pastry wrap, with rice, fried banana, coconut, and chocolate sauce. It was definitely worth the "I'm so full I might explode feeling".

But the most important place in the whole world is the Steeler Nation. Being in New York, I find myself dating a Bills fan, poor guy, but being here, away from Pittsburgh for the playoff games is especially hard. Luckily, Steeler fans are everywhere, and even at the local dive, everyone was sporting black and gold.

PITTSBURGH'S GOING TO THE SUPERBOWL!! I'm sure you all know this by now, but I can hardly contain my excitement. My current project is getting my boyfriend to come home to Pittsburgh with me to go out to the bars to watch the big game. Go Steelers!

Good Friends, Good Eats, Good Luck

Thursday night was my friend's birthday, where we decided to go out for an amazing dinner at Good Luck, in the artsy area of the city. Having been there once before, I knew to get the mushroom fettuccine, and the rabbit, which are both to die for. Good Luck is a good mix up from the cookie cutter chain franchises and typical "upscale" restaurants that all seem the same. It is eclectic, yet elegant, and has a unique interior that mixes decor styles for a cozy, but spacious feel.

The food at Good Luck is served like tapas, or family style, which is nice when you want to try a few things you normally wouldn't want to risk as a whole entree. They also serve fantastic old fashioned style cocktails, like a sidecar or a gimlet. And although the classic drinks are delicious, they come in child sized portion glasses, so you'll have to buy three to get you're fill.

We had a fantastic time celebrating our friend's birthday. The boys all went out to the bars after dinner, while I ran home to catch some z's. Unfortunately, one cup of espresso at 10pm is not good for an 8am class of Flash Animation, which might in fact be the only hurdle between me and graduation.

And more importantly, what did I wear? I made a big fuss about having someone take an action photo of me while outside, but due to an unexpected snow, the only thing I could think about was running to my car as fast as humanly possible. It has also become quite clear after tonight, that I have no idea how to use my camera, and that will have to be my next pet project.

Anyway, this weekend is already full of excitement, for the Steelers will be playing the Jets, winning, and going to the Superbowl to get the big number seven. Let's go Black and Gold, baby!

Sticky Lipgloss Vintage: Behind The Scenes

And while I've been blogging now for about a year and a half, six months ago I started an Etsy shop, selling vintage clothing and accessories. Sticky Lipgloss Vintage is my creative passion, and my escape from the day to day stress of real life. In my last post, I mentioned that my boyfriend gave me a fancy new DSLR camera for Christmas. This camera, along with the purchase of a dress form and studio lighting (a gift from Santa, actually), are really helping me creatively achieve goals for my shop, as well as rejuvenating my passion for artistic expression.

So let me share with you my little homemade studio in my apartment where I keep all of my pretty things and photograph them for my online shop. Enjoy!

Needless to say, I'm loving my new camera, even though I have yet to learn how to use about 75% of the features. Luckily, I go to a college with one of the best photography programs in the country, and am looking to take a photography class for non-photography majors, next quarter (my final quarter of school!).
